Health Spending Accounts
Tax-Free Spending Account
Health care spending accounts is the newest and most innovative way in providing benefits for your staff, in addition to your group benefit program OR on a standalone basis.
HSA’s allow the employees/employers to use their health care dollars for whatever they wish.
An HSA (Private Health Services Plan) is a Canada Revenue Agency approved method to provide medical, dental and vision benefits in a tax efficient manner.
A corporation can write off 100% of the costs related to its HSA. All expenses reimbursed are tax-free to the employees.
If an employer does not have a traditional benefits plan, an HSA can be used to provide a complete range of coverage including medical, dental, and vision benefits to employees who otherwise could not get employer sponsored benefits.
If an employer has a traditional insured group benefits plan, an HSA can be used to “carve out” infrequently used coverage such as orthodontics or vision care and make these types of benefits available in a Health Spending Account.
Additional add ons available such as travel coverage, employee assistance programs, etc *an additional monthly fee applies
Wellness Spending Accounts
Taxable Spending Account
A taxable spending account provided by employers to promote healthier lifestyles and employee satisfaction.
As Wellness Accounts are taxable, they are extremely flexible. The only governing body over eligible items in the program is the employer.
An employer can allocate a certain amount of corporate dollars within their spending account for the “wellness” program, without having to deduct taxes as you would when paying an employee income.
A Wellness Spending Account will typically encompass what the company believes are items that reward and incentivize their staff. There are many standard Wellness items, such as: daycare, gym memberships, vitamins, personal training, etc. With this plan, you can be as creative as you want when building it.
